Bird and plant illustrated playing cards
I’ve had a plan to create a set of playing cards for years. Decades. My higher art design project was a set of cards on a musical theme. Obviously, they were never realised beyond the paper versions needed to get the higher, but the plan was rooted! In 2011 I started drawing a more traditional set, with kings and queens, but never finished. In fact, for a laugh, I’ll put a few of them in at the bottom of this page. I also made a set of Alice in Wonderland cards for Macmillan Publishing a while back.
But it’s a set of bird/plant illustrations I’ve been planning and I decided recently, thanks to a beautiful illustration project I did for the Botanical Gardens in Edinburgh, that I had enough in my collection to create a set. So here they are. Only the images, because the pack contains an invitation to identify them all, and a QR code to a page of answers. They’re available to buy in my shop.
Clubs: seabirds

Diamonds: exotic plants

Hearts: native plants

Spades: field/garden birds

If you’d like a set, they’re available in my shop.
Limited edition prints
Many of my bird illustrations are available as limited edition giclee prints. You can browse them in my shop, but get in touch if there’s one you’d like that I haven’t listed – sometimes I need a nudge!
And, as promised, here are a few of my 2011 never-finished cards!
