Royal Botanical Garden Edinburgh

I was asked to create a board game for the Royal Botanical Garden in Edinburgh. The game is called Plant Places and revolves around the huge amount of ongoing work to repair the glasshouses.

Commissioned by the learning team for use in workshops, it has players temporarily housing plants in order to carry out glasshouse repairs, then resettling them in the appropriate climate. The cards also discuss where plants are endemic to, and whether they’re at risk or culturally significant. It also highlights skills used in the various roles involved in such work.

It’s been such a lovely project, partly because stage one was drawing a huge collection of beautiful plants!

Another project I’ve been working on for the Botanics is their Plant-Kind interactive learning platform. I started with the schools version in 2024, creating illustrations for the home screen and icons which open up information panels. I’m now developing the early years version.

I’ve also created a series of worksheets for the learning teams at Edinburgh and Benmore Botanical Gardens. There are versions for different age groups and different types of adventure, as well as black and white versions for when printing is limited.
